This stunning plant is ideal for a connoisseur grower. It produces magnificent clouds of magenta-purple bracts from July to September. A strong-growing semi-evergreen climber, it's best grown in a conservatory, but could be moved out to a sunny patio during the warmer months. As soon as the temperatures start to dip however, it must be moved back to a frost-free spot.
Bougainvillea spectabilis Red is vigorous, evergreen or almost deciduous climber with stems bearing down-cruving thorns and ovate, downy, mid-green leaves, 10cm long. Purple or pink bracts, 5-6cm long, are produced from spring to summer. Height 7-12m. Native to Brazil. ‘Lateritia’ produces brick-red bracts, 3-3.5cm long.
